What Is The Natural Horse?
A 'natural horse' is a horse untrained in the often abusive, forceful methods commonly used in traditional equestrian practices. (We do recognize that there are many who don't employ these methods)
A 'natural horse' is one that partners willingly with a human and does what is asked because what is asked, is not foreign to their natural instincts and impulses. We don't interfere with the horse's psyche (by breaking their will or spirit for our purposes) --through the use of fear tactics or forceful control. We emphasize the nature of the horse and their natural tendencies. We partner with the horse so they can help us to do what we need to do. This relationship between human and horse is one of constant, caring, and a two-way spiritual communication between species, or what we refer to --as the 'Golden Thread'.
Carl Jung states that "The spiritual appears in the psyche as an instinct, indeed is real passion. It is not derived from any other instinct, but is a principle so generic, that is, a specific and necessary form of instinctual power. It is a deep seated element in all beings, the source of our own power."
Truly, a 'natural horse' is of a natural spirit. It is free to act and be a horse, not just an animal under human control. When we honor the horse and accept their natural behaviors and tendencies, we are honoring ourselves, and --our highest authority. When we allow a horse to be a 'natural horse' we are accepting the horse for what they really are and through this 'Golden Thread' (between horse and human), we can begin to fully accept ourselves and others --with compassion. As we begin this process of acceptance, we begin to wonder about our 'higher nature' --our spiritual purpose, and understand that we have so much potential yet to realize. Working with the 'natural horse' inspires us to be more than who we are, and to experience the lure --of the Divine.
