All programs are based on our 'foundation' program,
FRESH START was created in 1982.
What started as a way to improve riding skills, CHANGED into a study of people's instincts and impulses, and how they parallel a horse's behaviors. By taking a new look at what happens between horse and rider, we found the 'key' to unlock barriers that can occur in both our programs, as well as traditional 'therapeutic' programs. That 'key' has been to assess client & horse personality and behavior or emotional issues, that need to be addressed. The clients are then matched with a horse that has a similar disposition or compatible behavior. Occasionally opposites, are very good for each other. By understanding instincts and perceptions of the natural horse, we begin to understand our social behavior, and that of others.
Our Program has proved to be therapeutic for the confused or abused horse as well, as we help the handler/rider to understand the horse on a much deeper level, making for a better relationship.
Sessions involve ground work (handling of the horse, grooming, grazing) or actual riding. In most cases a combination of both.
Our Program is Beneficial for Mental Health & Emotional Well-Being.
In conjunction with the referring agency, therapists, and the client themselves, goals are discussed and sessions are tailored to address those issues/objectives. For example; control disorders, lack of concentration, low self-esteem or self-confidence & learning disorders. Clients may participate in either individual sessions or in one of our programs in a group session. Referring agencies can also request a customized program for their own groups or individuals.
